Northern Band Students Earn More Honors

Congratulations to Lindsay Dubay (2nd from right) and Matthew Hartson (3rd from Right) for earning Big Ten awards at the MSU Student Leadership/Performing Arts camp that is attended by hundreds of students across michigan and elsewhere. This makes 9 out of the last 10 years that a PHN drum major has earned this award and the third time in the last four years that we have had two drum majors earn these honors.
They rock.

Audition results / Section leaders

Choosing between many bright, talented, enthusiastic students for a very limited number of spots is always the worst part of my job.

Our leadership team is starting to come together.

At the link below is the first level list of section leaders for the 2017 PHN Marching Band.

As we learn about numbers and instrumentation, more leaders will be added.

Drum Line and Color Guard audition results

There are no omissions to the list.

If your name is not included on the sheet, it is because of limitations of instruments, band and section balance, instrumentation needs, audition, or a combination of the above.  For those that are not listed here please plan on playing your primary instruments for the marching band season.  If we have any problems in the sections we may come back for people to fill in needed positions.

Audition results and Level 1 section leaders posted 8 AM Monday.

Unfortunately, a couple of things have interfered with the smooth implementation of the clinic/interview/audition process.  I am so sorry to put you on hold.

Please understand that choosing between many bright, talented, enthusiastic students for a very limited number of spots is always the worst part of my job.  I lose sleep trying to maintain a balanced process serving as many students as I can, to the best of my ability.

Drum Major and Horn Captain results

We are pleased to announce the three newest members of our leadership team.

We welcome aboard the following
*** Elizabeth Dewey - Field Commander
*** Dan Saunders - Field Commander
*** Jordan Berg - Horn Captain

ALL of the auditions were very good. There was not a weak one among them.  The audition panel got to have a taste of the difficult, miserable, heart-wrenching decisions that need to be made in a program such as ours on a regular basis.  Again, all the students had very good auditions, yet we are only able to say "yes" to a few.

These leaders will be expected to sign contracts that outline high expectations for work, attendance, and behavior.  The Field Commanders and Drum Majors will also be expected to attend a summer leadership clinic (information to follow).

ALL of the candidates have great gifts to offer. We hope that we can consider all of these candidates for future potential leadership positions and lots of help and support in what is already shaping up to be a great 2017/2018.

Sorry this took so long.  Most people missed the deadline and I could not decided on an instrumentation based on what I had.  If you would like these decisions made sooner, encourage your classmates to get their materials in sooner!
